Weinstein praises Gallic anti-piracy laws (Link)
London
Harvey Weinstein, One of the two founders of The Weinstein Company, called the U.K and the U.S along with several other Governments to Follow Franc in putting into effect a much stricter Anti-Piracy Policy in an effort to protect filmmakers. This was announced at a keynote address to an audience at the BFI London Film Festival's Industry Program Thursday Night (London Time) Weinstein encouraged the global industry " to unite to change piracy laws, to oppose broadcaster consolidation and to preserve film heritage." as stated in the article linked above. At the Keynote, Weinstein talked about three problems that were facing the film industry, one of them was Internet Piracy quoting ""Our business is much more robust than we are feeling right now, but the benefits are going to other people." He also said that " unauthorized online use of film and film clips denied actors,
directors, composers and other filmmakers of their rightful returns" then he said ""It's like going into a clothing store, taking a few shirts and saying 'I believe in free shirts." He then brought up the law in France which he praises. The law was signed in May of 2009 by former president Nicolas Sarkozy. This law allows the government to cut users internet connections before the user goes to court.
Wow, this is a very important subject and for that matter, I am on completely on Harvey Weinsteins' side of the argument. Anti-Piracy laws are too weak as opposed to the one in France which cuts off the users internet which prevents further downloading of illegal content. I Like how one of the founders of the Weinstein company is attempting to represent everyone who is affected by the piracy As a student, this event really helps with my future as well as the future of filmmakers worldwide. This Helps set standards for anti-piracy in the future and help prevent such events from reducing the amount of money a film takes in. As a future filmmaker, well, this helps add more support in protecting the films I will one day help to make. Questions to be raised are for the pirating people in particular "What are we going to do now that out 'job' is being cracked down to?" All I have to say is, Bootleggers Beware!
I disagree, I feel that the government should just track your computer, and then just fine them the price of the dvd or movie by force.
